Skate 3 Browser

Skate 3 Clean Room

This build attacks the same goal from the opposite direction. Instead of streaming original game data, it rebuilds the game from scratch with Rust and WebGPU, so there is nothing to supply and a very specific browser requirement instead.

Short answer

A rebuild written from scratch with Rust and WebGPU. Because it does not ship any original game data, it is the easiest build to just open in a tab — but it needs a WebGPU-capable browser, and it is not the full 2010 game.

What makes it different

No original game files are involved. The project is an open-source rebuild, which means you can open it in a compatible browser and start skating without preparing any data. The trade-off is content: it is a rebuild of the mechanics and controls, not a copy of the 2010 game.

Why it needs WebGPU

WebGPU is the browser API that lets this build talk to your GPU directly. Without it there is no slower fallback path, so a browser without WebGPU support will not run the build at all, no matter how fast the machine is.

Not Working

Before you open it

  • WebGPU browser

Chrome, Edge or another recent browser on a desktop GPU. Safari and older GPUs may not work.

  • Desktop browser

Playable on a desktop. Phone behaviour depends on the build and is often unverified.

  • Stable connection

Game data is streamed on demand, so a slow or unstable connection shows up as long loading and stutter.

  • Keyboard or gamepad

Both work on the builds that document them. Touch controls are limited.

What is not in it yet

The project documents its own gaps, which is more useful than a feature list. Expect to notice these:

  • Not the original game: no career mode, no Hall of Meat, no full city areas.
  • Needs a browser with WebGPU enabled.
  • Three large city areas are still not playable in the browser build.
  • Multiplayer rooms are built, but the public relay was not deployed when this was last checked.

Controls

Keyboard and gamepad are both supported, and the project publishes a keyboard mapping that stands in for an Xbox controller. The arrow keys drive tricks, and space pushes off rather than jumping.

Clean Room questions

+Does it need game files?

No. This is the build to try if you do not have converted game data, because it does not read any original files.

+Is it the full Skate 3?

No. It reproduces skating, tricks and some parks, but the original career, challenges and full city areas are not part of it.

+Why does it say my browser is unsupported?

Almost always because WebGPU is unavailable. Check hardware acceleration and your browser version before you assume the build is broken.

+Can I play it on a phone?

Phones do not reliably expose WebGPU, and the build expects desktop-class input and GPU capability. Treat mobile as unsupported here.
